I have two NEW oil paintings on canvas completed of the lakeshore. Two more are in the works. It has been a good day. Three abstract paintings sold and there are a few out on loan. I am currently working on a rustic coffee table I built and still sewing the boat cushions. The coffee table will be painting with a dark finish for the legs and the table top color will be in a dramatic red! I bought some nice beaded moulding to trim the table top edge. Can't wait to start painting it.

I decided to build the Spa Bench from the Ana White plans. It was easy to build thanks to the material/ cut list and great diagrams and easy to follow steps.

The finished product. I sanded the edges and top to give it a worn feel.

Lastly, I added the girls shoes! Hopefully I will not have to frantically search for their shoes in the morning anymore!

Yesterday I decided to start the teak process on my boat by using the cleaner and brightner. It was a dirty messy job, but today I applied the teak oil and it seems to be well worth it. I have just a few more applications.

I decide to build the spa bench for my girls. I found some cute white baskets with pink floral print to add underneath. It was fairly easy to build and I used the Kreg Jig for the first time. BOAT PROJECT for the SPRING:

So far reupholstering the boat cuddy cushions has been fairly easy. I'm getting rid of the late 80's fabric and found some nautical fabric and Joann's for a bargain. I've wrapped the back cushions with much success. I have two more cushions to wrap and staple on the backside. However, the other 4 cushions have zippers and will probably be a challenge. I should have them done within the week and I'll post a finished photo of the cuddy.

I've decided to recreate myself and start focusing on my artwork and miscellaneous "off the edge" creations. The light bulb usually goes off in the middle of the night, when I get a "new" idea! So this weblog is going to be about me and my new works, whether it be new jewelry designs, new paintings, sketches, completely framed up works of art, and my latest....... building furniture. Yes - I have found I really enjoy woodworking. A new adventure! I am also reupholstering my cuddy cushions in my boat! So far so good. I'm saving the hard stuff for last. And did I mention I'm getting back into pottery after a couple of decades. I'm a 37 year old mom with two wonderful girls, ages 5 and 7. Here's to a new beginning! I got into making jewelry and few years ago. I have loads and loads of beads. So many cool beads, I don't know what to do with them. Everytime I stop into the hobby store, I end up buying more beads! All of the beads I love. Anything I create is usually with my taste and style. The designs are all pretty simple with a contemporary feel. I'm not one for a lot of gussied up stuff. When I get inspired to create more jewelry, I am usually upstairs in my studio with my two girls during the evening. The girls are old enough now that they won't put beads into their mouth and don't continually "touch" the beads. Of course they want to make jewelry too, so I have given them all of my beads from when I was a kid. My mother has saved just about everything of my sister and my children objects. The harsh, loooooooooong winter is dragging on and oh how I wish I was in the keys. Relaxing beside a pool, gazing up into the bright blue sky, watching the palm trees sway back and forth. So, I continue to dream of a warmer, up-lifting place. Our beaches here in Michigan are spectacular. I bought my first boat last summer and loved being out on the lake. It is so peaceful and beautiful. My girls absolutely loved it too. We swam in the lake, had picnics, climbed the dunes and just loved "our" time. Here is to another great upcoming summer. "Beneath These Layers" Mixed Media by Christi Dreese-Carter

Artists’ Recollect & Connect with the Past and Present

Spring Lake – Past and present encounters combine two abstract artists’ works to collaborate their recent collection of paintings. While Grandville artist Eric Fracassi constructs his mixed media paintings from recollections of the past to resurrect and preserve significant memories of both time and place; artist/ owner of Dreese Fine Art & Framing creates new works that convey her emotions which signify connections with her family, friends and loved ones.

Fracassi’s work combines a full spectrum of color incorporated into recurring images of crows, feathers, frogs and dragonflies. “Simple activities filling the bird bath with water, collecting bird feathers, and feeding the crows at my grandparents’ home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan made a lasting impression on me, and have taken on a spiritual context for me as an adult,” explained Fracassi.

While Fracassi reflects on his past, Christi Dreese-Carter finds peace by releasing her present emotions onto paper. “Each painting carries its own separate sentiment connected to someone or something,” Dreese-Carter said. The paintings are canvassed with large strokes of color. Gouges and graphite carelessly flows through the acrylic paintings giving you a sense of movement.

“I think everyone connects with someone; whether it is a parent, their children, spouse or friend,” Dreese-Carter said. The new series of work takes a completely opposite approach from her impressionistic landscapes of Lake Michigan. It is a new avenue for Christi Dreese-Carter since she started experimenting with abstract three years ago.

The exhibit, “Recollections & Connections” will be on display from June 3rd – June 28th. An artist reception will be open to the public on Friday, June 6 from 5 – 8 p.m.

Welcome to our brand new location. Now 3 months in our new spot, we are feeling right at home. We could not have asked for a better Grand Opening turnout! This January has proven to be our busiest month yet since we opened our doors 5 years ago. Thank you to those who have supported us. Without great customers and a supportive community, we would not be here.

As for the upcoming months, we are just about booked with new art exhibits! During the month of April we will have artist Dick Heffron display his acrylic wildlife paintings along side Jim Anderson's wildlife wood carvings. Something not to miss. The carvings have been in national competitions! An artist reception will be held on April 18th from 5 - 7. Open to the public. Dress is casual.

Four works are in progress and the center apple still-life has recently been completed and just about ready to be fitted into an elaborate gold frame. I love the colors. This color combination will be for a new series of work. The bottom, painting has been started from a quick sketch in Sonora, Kentucky on our way to Florida.

New sketches were created Sunday, our "fall tour"/ family day. We only made it as far as Whitehall and stopped at Medbery Park after becoming lost in the country side. To our suprise, we found a quaint spot to enjoy the scenery of Lake Michigan. I managed to quickly sketch 2 scenes for future paintings before my 8 month baby ate beach sand. My husband managed to run my 2 1/2 year old down the beach. That gave me about 20 minutes for possible future paintings. One of them I think will be created on a 5ft. x 7ft. canvas for an oil painting.
